(12.10.2007) Free Internet at the M.R. Štefánika Airport

Another zone with free internet connection has emerged in Bratislava

Bratislava. The company Letisko M.R. Štefánika – Airport Bratislava, a.s. (BTS) goes forward to all passengers who feel the need to communicate also by other means than over the phone. Many passengers from among entrepreneurs or managers want to check their e-mail box after getting down from the plane. Others want to inform their close relatives on happy landing or exchange few words with the boss. And by all means we should keep in mind that when browsing the internet sites, the time spent in the departure hall runs much faster. Today the internet connection represents an inseparable part of complex services of each modern airport.

The connection is available through the microwave WiFi network. In this way the owners of laptops and different types of handheld apparatuses gained the access to internet. All areas for passengers as well as the airport's adjacent areas are covered by the signal. The network can be identified under the name FreeInternet. The connection to the WiFi network is the same all over the world. "Therefore the passengers with laptops will need not to search for telephone cards or to pay the roaming charges. Through our network they will communicate free of charge and immediately, as if they were at home or in their office," says Ivo Jasenčák, the project manager of the Bratislava Airport.

The Airport guarantees maintaining the privacy of data communication as well. In the interest of users contentment it will only be statistically recorded whether there is a greater interest in checking the mail, browsing the internet, or other common activities. However the system will block the user, the computer of which sends excessive volume of electronic mail – the SPAM, or is connecting in large extent to controversial P2P networks.

With a smile on his face Ivo Jasenčák admits that they have already managed to block one computer: "It was probably somebody from our personnel or from the personnel of companies carrying out their activities at the airport. Unless it is a computer expert and finds another way, he will have to buy a new notebook before accessing our network."

The signal provides for 11 access antenna points. The connection bandwidth is 2Mbit, without filtering and limiting the data volume. There can be up to 254 users connected at the same time.
